The biggest automation mistake is starting with the most exciting idea instead of the most useful one. A short scoring exercise keeps you honest.
Score three things from one to five
- Frequency: how often does this task happen?
- Pain: how much time or frustration does it cost each time?
- Predictability: does it follow the same steps almost every time?
Multiply the three scores. The highest number is your first project. A task that happens daily, annoys everyone and follows a clear pattern beats a rare, complicated one every time.
Check the risk before you build
Automations that touch money, legal commitments or sensitive data need a human check. Start with low-risk work such as lead capture, reminders and internal reports, and earn trust before going further.
Ship small, then measure
Build the smallest version, run it for two weeks and compare hours saved and errors against your baseline. Let the result decide what comes next.
